Suzy Durband grew up in Athens,Tennessee.  In 1993, she graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College with a B.S. degree in English Education. She went on to study foreign languages in the storied city of Monterey, California, where she met her husband, who is a pilot for the USAF.  They have two daughters.

              Raising a family in the Air Force has allowed Suzy to experience new places while encountering wonderful people along the way.  In Enid, Oklahoma, Suzy studied watercolor painting with award winning artist LaVerne Scott, who taught her that beauty is in our lives every single day and it is the duty of artists to express what already surrounds us.

            After moving to Mt. Pleasant , SC in 2003, Suzy began painting with oils.  She has taken classes and strives to sketch or paint on a daily basis.  She continues her growth as an artist by studying works of the masters and modern day artists.  Suzy particularly enjoys figurative painting and she also commissions portraits. 

            Suzy feels blessed to be able to do what she is most passionate about.  A quote from Robert Henri’s The Art Spirit says it best.  “There are moments in our lives, there are moments in a day, when we seem to see beyond the usual.  Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom.  If one could but recall his vision by some sort of sign.  It was in this hope that arts were invented.  Sign-posts on the way to what may be.  Sign-posts toward greater knowledge.” 

          Suzy’s works are currently in private collections in the United States and in England .
